Pyrokinesis

ree

I would rate this book a 3/5 it was a good read, but it definitely wasn't one of my favorite Stephen King books. This book actually does have a movie; but I didn't get the chance to watch it, it is an older movie. He left me wanting more and we all know how I am about wanting more out of a story. Some people love the mystery as for myself ehhh not my favorite. I mean there was a small amount of closure, but I wanted a little expansion on what happened to this 9 year old girl. I didn't feel that page turner I have to finish this book until I was only a couple chapters from actually finishing the book.

You have been warned there are spoilers ahead

I will say this story had an amazing plot and character buildup as Stephen King usually does. This story is about a little girl (Charlie McGee) who ends up getting Pyrokinesis from her parents (Andy and Vicky McGee) because they went through a test study for $100 in college. At the time of the study they actually didn't know each other they had met right before the study and during the study they both had the same experiences and talked about it after the fact. Shorty after they began dating and ended up getting married.

What Charlie's parents found out later was that the study was actually part of a government program (no surprise here) and they were apart of becoming a weapon basically. Vicky was able to use telekinesis to move items around and Andy basically was able to push people into doing things; so telling them to believe in something and they would do it. Well once they had the baby they produced a Z gene and that's how she ended up with the Pyrokinesis. From a young age they taught her that lighting things on fire was very bad and that's how she felt about the power throughout the book, even when she had gained some control over it.

The government was keeping tabs on them throughout the years and learned of Charlie's abilities and of course they wanted to take her in and run some tests on her. Well one weekend Andy and Vicky send Charlie to a friends for a sleepover and the shop thinks they got wind of them and sent her away. They Kill Vicky by torturing her into telling them where Charlie is and basically kidnap Charlie. Andy has a bad feeling the whole day and ends up leaving work early to go check on Vicky. When he gets to the house he finds her dead in a closet and Charlie is nowhere to be found. Andy ends up on the shop's trail and steals Charlie back by pushing them into blindness and going insane. Charlie and Andy are on the run again from the shop and end up at a farmers house who takes them in for the evening for supper. The shop once again finds them and brings multiple people to take them away Charlie basically sets them all on fire and also the farmers home. He tells them to escape out the back with his old jeep and they end up going to Andy's dads home on the lake to hideout for a few months.

I would Love to hear your thoughts on this book if you have read it, seen the movie, or are adding it to your TBR. Lets start a convo!
